  • 93 Yves Beck (Yvesbeck.wine)

Garnet red with purple reflections. What a bouquet! Very inviting, fruity and spicy. Pleasant aromas of raisins, cassis and blackberries. On the palate, the wine is compact, dense but also refreshing… A great success. – Yvesbeck.wine (3/20/19)

  • 91-93 Jeff Leve, Wine Cellar Insider

A blend of 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot created a lengthy, fruity, deeply-colored wine, which is fleshy, ripe, dense, long and polished. (4/27/2017)

  • 92 Jeb Dunnuck

From a 28.5-hectare vineyard overlooking the Gironde River on the northern side of Saint-Estephe, the 2016 Château Charmail is one of those hidden gems in the vintage that should be snatched up by readers. It’s a medium to full-bodied, elegant, classic wine that offers lots of darker fruits (cassis and blackberry), spice, new saddle leather, and leafy herbs as well as a kiss of damp earth. It has terrific balance and is going to keep for 15-20 years.”

  • 91-92 James Suckling

Blueberry and blackberry character with hints of stones and minerals. Medium to full body and firm and silky tannins. Wonderful tannin quality here.

  • 90-92 Neal Martin (Wine Advocate)

The 2016 Charmail is a blend of 12% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot, 36% Merlot and 42% Cabernet Sauvignon cropped between 3-21 October and matured in one-third new oak. It has a slightly leafy bouquet that is nicely detailed, good depth with cracked black pepper emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with rustic tannin, great depth and grip, very fine salinity with a Saint-Estèphe-like structure on the finish. The 2015 Charmail was excellent and this is likewise. (28/4/2017)

  • 91+ Robert Parker Wine Advocate

“Deep garnet-purple in color, it delivers intense scents of crème de cassis, cedar chest with touches of yeast extract and menthol. Medium to full-bodied with a firm frame of chewy tannins and plenty of mint-laced fruit ..” (LPB – 1/12/2018)

  • 91 Vinous (Neal Martin)

The 2016 Charmail has a generous bouquet with black cherries, boysenberry and discrete floral scents. The oak is nicely integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, a lovely bead of acidity, an impressive precision and persistence on the finish. This Charmail revels in a great Bordeaux vintage – wonderful. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. (10/25/2018)

  • 91 Vinous Antonio Galloni

The 2016 Charmail has turned out beautifully. Dark cherry, plum, bittersweet chocolate, leather, tobacco and spice give the 2016 notable richness and density. Powerful and very ripe in style, the 2016 has so much to offer. The 2016 is a big wine with tons of character and sheer personality.

  • 90 Wine Enthusiast

Just north of Saint-Estèphe, this vineyard surrounds a turreted chateau. With a high percentage of Merlot in the blend, this wine has a spicy, juicy character that is given necessary freshness by acidity and crisp black-currant flavors.

  • 90 Bettane & Desseauve

Powerful nose, intensely fruity and floral, vigorous in the mouth, well structured, with excellent freshness on the finish. Well balanced.

  • 16/20 Jean-Marc Quarin

The best ever! Dark, intense and beautiful color. Intense nose, very fruity, pure and ripe. Full on attack, bursting with fruit, with a dense and velvety body, the wine develops long, tasty and without angles. It is accompanied by unprecedented precision in texture and pulp. A delight! A beautiful Outsider
